The Hero of Johnson County
During these rough economic times, Judy Trezvant has become a hero to the people of Johnson County through her local food bank. Her food bank, known as the Raising Hope Food Pantry, opened five months ago and serves about seventy area families per week. The food bank provides staples such as bread, milk and meat for all residents who come; and is centrally located in town for the ease of those who would have difficulty traveling.
Economic conditions are exceptionally tough on the mostly rural and low income Johnson County residents with an unemployment rate at 10.5%, two points higher than the national average. Helen Gibbs, one of the food banks weekly customers considers Judy a hero for the County. Wiping tears away stating, "She is great, fantastic. She will do whatever she can for you anytime, anyplace, anywhere."
"I don't think I'm a hero, I'm just doing what God instructs us to do," stated a very humble Judy Trezvant. Trezvant, former nurse and now part time receptionist, says she started the bank after a promise she made to God for helping her raise her two daughters as a single mother.
The food bank is located at 213 Maple Street but will be moved to a new undetermined location by the 15th. When asked if she will close up her food bank, Judy enthusiastically replied, "We won't close up. God has shown me there will be a way. I'll be doing this til God takes me home."
