Tragedy has struck the local airport. Half an hour ago, a twin-engine plane crashed one mile north of the airport. No condition reports are available yet, but a hospital spokesperson confirms that six people from the plane crash were brought in. Our news-team spoke with the airport manager Dave Christopher about the accident. According to Christopher the plane was approaching the airport for landing when it crashed into a dense growth of trees. The Acme construction company has called our newsroom seeking information about the crash. It's plane was due in at the same time as the crash. According to Acme Construction, the city manager, city councilman and the construction company president were apparently on it's plane.

Low temperatures in the city cause some elementary schools to close today. The National Weather Service indicates that the official low temperature last night was 18 degrees below zero. Lincoln Elementary will not open because the heating plant failed. Marjorie Thomas, president of the Washington School PTA, says all the schools should close but Dr. Ken Gray, school superintendent, reports school will remain open. Several parents decided to keep their children home even though their school was open. Because of the low temperatures, fewer than half the city's buses started this morning. Buses will only run on country routes to pick up students who live the farthest from school. All kindergarten classes will be closed today.
